International Organizations in favor of women in commercial aviation
Two organizations worldwide are leading the charge in promoting greater inclusion for women in the commercial aviation sector, the International Society of Women Airline Pilots (ISWAP), and the Institute for Women in Aviation Worldwide (iWOAW ).
We must be clear that, when organizations such as ISWAP and iWOAW seek to promote the participation of women in the aeronautical sector, special emphasis is placed on the right they have, just like men to serve as pilots, and as aircraft commanders, positions that even today in many airlines are considered exclusive to men; this in no way detracts from the position that women have held throughout the history of commercial aviation as flight attendants, stewardesses, or air hostesses a job that is worthy of recognition and applause, it simply seeks a level playing field in positions that have been restricted to women for years.
The data
In a study carried out by ISWAP, the following data were obtained on the situation of the work environment of female pilots in the commercial aviation work environment: only 5.26% (9,746) of the 185,143 airline pilots are women, of this small group, less than half, 2,630 serve as commanders.
In view of the results, which demonstrate a minimal participation of women in commercial piloting, the commercial aviation sector, along with various stakeholders in the environment; They are encouraging more women to participate in positions that for a long time were assigned exclusively to the male role, this is opportune, since in the coming years a growth in the demand for commercial pilots is expected.
