The sanitary measures imposed in the different countries in the aeronautical sector have received a diversity of acceptance or rejection, depending on the circumstances of the application of the measures, ranging range from the presentation of certificates and results of Covid-19 tests done up to 2 days in advance until the requirement to take the test at the airport itself. This last measure has not received the best acceptance from air transport users in Venezuela.
The situation
A crowd of passengers, who arrived in Venezuela on March 3, at the Simón Bolívar International Airport, demonstrated by passing the fences and sanitary controls of the airport in question, this as a deliberate act of rejection of the obligation to undergo a test detection of Covid-19 (PCR) and its consequent payment of 60 dollars. The users showed an aggressive attitude to the sanitary measure and to the airport staff because, using their physical force, they broke the “human fence” installed at the airport, the reaction of passengers is an alert to be careful about implementing the various sanitary measures; the sanitary control measure consists of requiring all persons arriving in Venezuela by air to undergo a PCR test in a single laboratory before carrying out the migration procedures.
Rejection to the measure
From the first day of implementing this measure, the rejection by the airport users was notorious, since they manifested themselves from their social networks; by publishing photographs of the long lines in which they had to wait their turn to carry out the PCR test, the waiting time was even up to four hours, which increased the discontent of the users.
Different causes of discontent
The Twitter social network was also one of the media where passengers made themselves heard. Among the various complaints made about the implementation of the measure are the existing problems to complete the payment of the tests, since the payment options are null; being the only accepted modality the payment in cash with dollars, with the inconvenience that the airport personnel did not have physical money to give change if necessary.
In the videos later shared on social networks, we can see the personnel responsible for implementing the sanitary measure at the airport trying to contain the passengers so that they would wait their turn for the test, however, because of the general discontent, the users managed to advance and break the sanitary fence without submitting to the test, it is unknown if any of the “escaped” passengers were returned.
What do you think of this topic? Do you think that implementing measures in a prudent way avoids passengers’ discontent?
