As in the article Interview to Mr. Aldo Raggio, Director of ACSO Peru, we again present an extract of the interview to Mr. Aldo Raggio, now specifically talking about the vision of risk in ISO 31000 and his interpretation of it.

You told us that ISO 31000 is something quite new, which also talks about risk with positive aspects, is that correct?

It is correct, of course; the model that ACI (Airports Council International) proposed is based on making effective risk management, in order to really avoid an air accident and maintain or improve the level of operational safety and that approach is to see the risk from the negative point of view.

However, the ISO 31.000 has an already modern concept of risk, where it defines it as a degree of uncertainty regarding the achievement of an objective.

In short, it means that there are negative risks and there are positive risks, although when one manages a personal security system well, one also finds “opportunities”, which are how the positive risks are known, to be able to improve operational security, only that at this moment in the model one is not talking about positive risks, one cannot improve if one could not take advantage of the opportunities that are given; which in short are positive risks.

Have you participated in any type of consultancy where you could give us some advice to improve operational awareness?

Yes, to begin with, you must first understand what the management system is. I have almost 30 years of experience with different models, as you said, and not only seeing the theoretical part but implementing systems in some countries, also training and educating professionals in those areas; We have participated in some software presentations, there are various software, but personally, I think that there has always been the concept that the vision is expensive, in reality, and they have made it expensive, undoubtedly it has a cost, investment is needed not to talk about costs as losses and there is a need for investment, but ultimately it is profitable if it is managed very well.
