Astronauts carry out different missions in which (in most cases) they are carried out in confined spaces for long periods of time, which is very useful nowadays to fulfill the confinement and social distancing by the Covid-19. That is why some astronauts have provided advice on how they have spent days in a small space while working; here are some tips:

Know the risk

It is important to know the risk of the situation and to be aware of it, in order to know what is happening it is vital to always go to “reliable sources” to be aware of the reason for the isolation and to know important updates, however, it is recommended avoid any type of negative news, that generates discomfort or that does not contribute to staying calm. During a period of isolation, negative news can significantly affect mental health and concentration, so it is recommended to avoid sensational or pessimistic news.

Choose goals

Astronauts during their isolated days expose that something that works for them is to set goals, from the work and personal spheres, these help them stay focused and avoid the despair that not leaving can cause; In addition, these goals must be achieved in the short term, that is, they must be small objectives that can be achieved in hours, days or weeks to have the feeling of progress and progress in what you want to achieve.

Stay positive

Sometimes some people feel that it can be difficult to be positive in negative situations, such as being quarantined by Covid-19 today; However, being able to maintain a positive and optimistic attitude is necessary to be able to overcome the days of social distancing, for this we can look for activities that make us feel good, such as making a list of all the things for which we are grateful, praying, read or listen to content related to personal development, meditation, etc.

Communication

Being able to communicate releases tension and provides a feeling of tranquility, that is why astronauts consider that calling family and friends helps to stay calm and therefore overcome the days in isolation; It would be helpful to call other people and create online group activities that create an interaction (respecting the distance). Currently, there are several applications that allow us to communicate with other family and friends at a distance, as mentioned in our previous article titled Top 4 applications for video conferences to deal with COVID-19

Practice a hobby or hobbies

Recreational activities are always a good idea to get out of routine or boredom, so being in quarantine allows those things that give joy and a sense of well-being to be resumed but that are sometimes neglected by everyday life, that’s why it is a good time to pick them up or do some new activities that you have ever thought of doing. For example, some of these activities may be drawing, exercising, singing, crafting, reading, watching movies, etc. (In 5 recommended aviation movies there are some recommendations that may be interesting to see something different).
